FORT COLLINS, Colorado -- I saw a great reading toy at the Northern Colorado Writers Conference April 4 – 5. The “Kindle”, made by Amazon.com, is the latest digital reader to hit the market.
The Kindle differs from the Sony reader in that its purchase includes access to wireless downloads of whatever you want to read.
One of the literary agents attending the conference, Kristin Nelson, pulled out her Kindle for people to see. The amazing thing about the Kindle is its size, truly not much bigger than a paperback, and very much like a journal when encased in its cover. The Kindle can hold hundreds of books or other reading material.
Unlike your Pocket PC, the Kindle shows up well in most lighting situations. Also, for those with less-than-perfect vision, you can magnify the type to something more accommodating.
The Kindle could help us all get rid of the paper mess we typically deal with. In my imagination I also see the weight-reduction of the typical student backpack. What a treat -- finding all your reading assignments and perhaps one day, textbooks, in one little device. You can get more information by clicking on the picture below.
